In Males, what happens after orgasm that causes such relaxation?

Published by Rachel at 7:24 am under Relaxation

relaxation
Simpleton asked:

The calmness that comes right after orgasm, what causes it? A friend and I were debating it, he claims the testosterone levels go down which make you calm, but I would think your testosterone level would stay pretty consistent, and that relaxation/calmness is caused by something else.

I agree with the guy who says that tension is released… that sounds right.

Actually a flood of endorphins are released, natural opiates… gives you that sleepy, good feeling.

Testosterone levels would remain the same, you’re correct.

as an orgasm builds up so does tension. Once a guy orgasms that tension is no longer there. thus we are relaxed.

The Orgasm releases all the body hormones in your area, which makes you think relaxed(not too much though)…
Your body relaxes after it’s hard times of muscle movements…

theres a chemical that is released when you get yours that has a relaxing, almost sleepy effect on the body. the same chemical is found in turkey. Thats why you get Sleepy after your thanksgiving dinner

    No, it’s a parasympathetic surge.
Your muscarinic receptors are flooded with acetylcholine.
    Whoo hoo!

Could be a combination of many things. For one, you have just released your orgasm, your heart rate slows down a bit more. A series of endorphins and hormones are released that fill your body with pleasure. At the same time, the sweat on your body begins to cool, cooling down your body. Your muscles all over your body relax. Hope that helps a bit.

There is a hormone called prolactin that is released, not testosterone. Other hormones are released and activity in the cerebral cortex decreases in both males and females. The female and male brain react similarly during and after orgasm.
