How do you balance schoolwork and relaxation?
mbtafan asked:
I go to a competitive suburban high school and work hard to earn a 4.0, but I feel that I am working really hard but I don’t get a lot of relaxation. How much time should I allocate for relaxation each day and how should I relax? How much time should I spend on school work?

sweetie, i don’t think you can!
depends on what you see as relaxation. if you like to run, a good jog is maybe 30 minutes. if you like to read, 45 minutes per day is good. there are relaxing things you can do to improve your high school resume as well, such as sports or community service.
if you like tv or video games, that will be a lot more time consuming. I recommend saving that stuff for spring or winter break. i used to get into games a lot and it is too addicting to be playing during school unless you have a lot of spare time.
Congratulations! You are already on the way to balancing schoolwork and relaxation… by admitting that you need to balance them, you have made a choice.
Set a schedule… Plan on 2 hours of homework/studying and 1 hour of relaxation… then 2 more hours of homework/studying… by putting it in the middle of your afternoon/evening, you’ll make sure to relieve stress while prepping for the next wave of schoolwork.
What you do it truly up to you…. my daughter used to spend the hour with her next-door friend. But she was VERY disciplined about the hour limitation.
You could walk… take your iPod, put on your favorite music, and walk for 30 minutes, turn around, and walk back!
You could try yoga or some other form of exercise… exercise is an excellent way to ‘relax’ your mind and muscles.
You could cook…. or knit….. or do scrapbooking…. or paint. Find something you enjoy that releases your mind and soul so that you can truly relax!!!
Whatever you choose, protect your hour!!! Be as diligent with your relaxation hour as you are with your studies.
